Omega Learning Center® builds a customized program for each student that begins with an assessment in all academic areas of reading and math. The basic skills a child needs to succeed either in math or reading are like building blocks. If the blocks are not firmly in place, they cannot serve as a foundation for more advanced skills. Most underlying skill weaknesses go undetected until students are faced with more advanced concepts. For example, if a student has trouble with division, a basic math skill, that student will fail to grasp more complex concepts such as algebra that require knowledge of fractions. Once we have an interpretive account of the student's skill levels in relation to their grade level and age, we will work with the parents to determine the best program and learning objectives. Omega strives to ensure that our instructors use the most effective learning style for each student.
Learning styles
According to many educators and leading theorists there are three main learning styles:
1. Auditory
Your child learns best by listening or hearing. They would rather talk about a concept. The student would benefit mostly from verbal communication and instruction.
2. Visual
Your child learns best by seeing. They would rather watch a demonstration and visualize the information related to the concept. The student would benefit from the use of visual aids with instruction.
3. Tactile
Your child learns best by doing. They would rather have direct involvement in what they learn. The student would benefit from using manipulatives for problem solving.
"Victory" based Learning
Our students play an integral role in driving their academic success. Each aspect of their work is geared towards achieving purposeful goals. We teach students how to check for mistakes and learn independently. Once they have achieved "Victory" over each skill with accuracy, they can advance to the next skill. Our skill check off list is based on your State Board of Education standards and are logged regularly.
Progress is checked at regular intervals in your child's program. Once their program report is evaluated, your Omega tutor determines if your child is ready for the next program concept. Your tutor will review the students' progress with the parents at your child's scheduled conferences. Your child’s teacher at school and you as parents are sent daily correspondence which shows what they worked on and gives recommendations for home growth.
The exact length of the students program depends on their specific academic needs and family's goals. Therefore students progress at their own pace. Strong skills lead to increased self confidence.
Motivational Approach
Omega certified teachers give motivational praise and positive verbal reinforcements to aid in the success of your child. During each lesson our teachers also award enrichment tokens. Students may redeam their tokens for a variety of prizes in our Omega Store. Tokens are given for correct answers, good effort, andgood behavior. This motivational approach builds stronger skills, which encourages better study habits, higher self-esteem, and happier kids!
At Omega, we take pride in providing a safe, caring and positive learning environment. We work hard to ensure the high quality of our scholastic programs. One of the benefits of the Omega experience is knowing that your child will be taught by committed certified teachers. While offering a 3: 1 student-teacher ratio, each student is working one on one with their instructor to fill skill their gaps. Our Omega certified teachers all share a commitment teaching and a desire to help students do their best.
The Certified Omega tutor sits inside the horseshoe-shaped table with her computer available to email parent and teacher at school. Each student will have immediate access to their tutor while also being able to work independently. This independence is critical self confidence.
Upon completion of each student's tutoring session, immediate feedback is sent via email to both parent and teacher at school. The students are graded in a number including accuracy, attitude, and level of difficulty the student had in completing the work with accuracy. Comments and recommendations for home growth are also sent.
Omega sets up an initial correspondence with each student's teacher to introduce Omega as a part of a team in reaching this student’s academic goals and that the parents are also being responsible and pro-active in this effort.
